The European Diploma
The European Diploma
On 28th June 2018, Stefan Schennach, chair of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development from the Bureau of the Assembly awarded 14 European cities, including Mińsk Mazowiecki with the European Diploma. Created by the Parliamentary Assembly in 1955, the Europe Prize is the highest distinction that can be bestowed on a European town for its actions in the European domain. It rewards municipalities for their active promotion of European ideals like twinings, European events, and exchange visits.
The official ceremony took place at the Palais de l'Europe in Strasbourg during the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly. Wojciech Sawicki, head the secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, attended this extraordinary event. Mińsk Mazowiecki was represented by Elżbieta Sieradzińska, the head of Mińsk Public Library; and Kamil Bodziony, the city council member.
The European Diploma is the first of four stages in order for cities to be recognized with the prestigious Europe Prize which recognizes outstanding efforts in promoting European unity.
Płońsk was the other Polish city recognized. The European cities of Stuttgart and Kiev were distinguished as well, but the sizes of those cities are much larger than Mińsk Mazowiecki and this distinction causes us to be very proud to earn these prestigious awards.
